Rotorua youngsters have been getting into the Christmas spirit, taking part in holiday themed crafts at the Rotorua Museum.

The museum held Drop-In Christmas Craft Activities classes at the weekend, recycling old Christmas cards to make new cards and tags.

The activity was included in the museum admission fee and public programmes manager Naiomi Murgatroyd said despite the sunshine yesterday, they had a steady flow of visitors.

"Even though the sun was shining, we had quite a few families come through our door looking for something fun and Christmassy they could do."

She said the activities drew in a good mix of locals and tourists wanting to take part.

"We had tourists from other countries and different parts of New Zealand come and participate in the Christmas-themed crafts. It's always fun to chat to the different people and hear about what brings them to Rotorua."

Ms Murgatroyd said the activities had a good reaction from kids who "love doing anything that involves cutting and sticking things together".

"We also had some of the fun stuff kids don't get to play with at school like stickers and glitter pens so there was a lot of creative juices flowing.

"The classes were just a bit of a pre-Christmas treat to celebrate the end of school and give families something fun to do," she said.

Also on offer at the museum is the "ever popular" Body in Action exhibition.

Ms Murgatroyd said the interactive exhibition about the human body always attracted a lot of families.

"They [families] love it because the kids can do their own exploring and guide themselves through the exhibition."
