Tickets for the Queen - It's a Kinda Magic tour are selling-out fast.

The Queen tribute show will play at the Civic Theatre tonight, as part of its international tour, where it has been playing to sell-out crowds.

Events and Venues general manger Peter McLeod said the show was expected to be popular.

"We expect a good crowd; it could be close to a sellout, so if anybody is wanting to come I would suggest that they pre-purchase rather than rely on them being available on the night," he said.

"That show's been through three or four times and it always is a great seller, we don't expect any different this time."

Englishman Giles Taylor, who plays lead singer Freddie Mercury, said audiences could look forward to an energetic, authentic performance.

Audience members are encouraged to get on their feet.

"The performance itself is high energy. There are only four of us that have to fill that space," Taylor said.

"And we have the luxury of having big LED walls and amazing light shows."

Attention to detail was important to the show, and getting into Mercury's skin, he said.

"Basically, I did a bit of character study but that was more about the performance of the songs - makeup artists try and change the shape of the face - but after that it all comes down to finer details.

"So, I spent a lot of time with a chap called Peter Freestone, who was Freddie's personal assistant, which sorts out little nuances and little character traits so that when it comes to being on stage it seems natural."
