Representatives of the national visitor information network approved Kawerau's application at a meeting this morning and the town's information centre can begin using i-SITE branding immediately.
In a statment to the Rotorua Daily Post the Bay of Plenty Regional Council said the changewould give the centre access to training, booking and marketing support, and other things and would mean it can better meet the needs of the community and a growing number of visitors.
The new-look centre will support Kawerau District Council's increased marketing initiatives to attract new residents to the district.
To coincide with the branding change, the information centre has undergone a complete revamp that sees it equipped with repainted walls to reflect Kawerau's iconic scenery, new furniture and an all-new team of four, headed up by Hannah Edwardson.
The team - Monique Raj, Matthew Joss and Eunice Rameka, and team leader Hannah Edwardson - looks forward to working as part of the i-SITE network.
"We're delighted we can increase the services we offer the community, and that we'll have the support of the national i-SITE network," said Ms Edwardson.
"Staff from other Bay of Plenty and Waikato i-SITES have provided invaluable support and this is much appreciated."
The revamped centre will also feature free wifi, a refreshed customer service area, seating areas for customers and a souvenir shop.
An official launch of the i-SITE will be held in December.
