All aboard the Kahukura express.

The Division 1 team are stringing together wins at a crucial time in the season and sit fourth on the table with just two games to play before semifinals.

Last week they handed Papamoa their first defeat of the second round, winning 26-12 on the back of a dominant first-half performance.

Todaythey can take another big step towards finals footy with a win over last-placed Rangiuru away.

Coach Wayne Fell said his side dominated the first half against Papamoa.

"We were up 19-0 at halftime, we dominated up front and dominated the scrum, which put them out of the game pretty early.

"We stuck to our structures and it all seemed to come together, it was probably the best first half we've played since the start of the season against Ngongotaha."

Fell said Rangiuru had not been travelling well but would be stronger at home.

"They'll be pretty niggly, there's a bit of history between the two sides and it's never easy going over there.

"We can sort of wrap up a semifinal berth if we win ... momentum is a funny thing in sport, if you can grab it and run with it anything can happen.

"We're not stretching our imagination, we're probably playing in the division we belong.

"This will probably be our last home game, we're playing these teams that are about our grade and if we can keep up the momentum who knows how far we'll go."

During the week Kahukura have continued to work on sticking to their structures and playing the game in the opposition's half.

"We want to be in the red zone and take chances, which we've pretty much done in the last couple of weeks.

"If we can get in the right positions and pick up points it takes the fight out of them."
