Indecent assault in Taupo

Taupo police are investigating a sexual assault on a local teenage female.

The incident occurred at about 3:25pm on Friday, September 12 on Kaimanawa Street near Spa Road.

The victim was walking with a friend when a man approached and inappropriately touched her.

The man was described as Maori, approximately 30-40 years old, approximately, 1.79m tall. He was clean shaven, short black hair with a receding hairline, of solid to overweight build with poor posture.

He was also described as having either a lazy eye or being cross-eyed.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or holds any information which may assist Police in identifying this offender.

"This was a brazen, opportunist assault and we are eager to resolve this offence for the sake of the victim, her family and in order to prevent any future incidents of this nature," Detective Claire Rogers said.

"I would like to take this is an opportunity to remind members of the public to report any suspicious people or concerning behaviour to the Police immediately."
