Icy conditions have been blamed for at least three crashes between Rotorua and Whakatane this morning.

Emergency services were called to three crashes including one at 7.50am on State Highway 30, near Te Teko.

There were concerns a person was trapped in a car but this was no the case when firefighters arrived, fire northern communications shift manager Scott Osmond said.

''No one has been seriously hurt,'' he said.

''The road is very icy though, people need to take extra care when driving.''

Firefighters passed another crash, believed to be minor, while responding to the most recent call.

Mr Osmond said there were at least three crashes they were aware of in the area this morning, believed to have been caused by icy roads.

The crashes follow a string of incidents yesterday, including a car leaving the road near Tikitere and a truck rolling near Kawerau.
