Sir Howard Morrison, who died in September 2009, will again be remembered at this year's Sir Howard Morrison Super 4 Club Competition.

Entries have opened for an annual hunting competition that pays tribute to Rotorua's favourite son, Sir Howard Morrison.

The Sir Howard Morrison Super 4 Club Competition first graced the hunting calendar in 2009.

It was started by keen hunter Howie Morrison Jnr as a tribute to his father and their shared passion for hunting and fishing.

Mr Morrison said he saw the opportunity to bring together a community of hunters and fishermen from all walks of life to take part in their common interest that he once shared with his father. Sir Howard died in September 2009.

The competition will run over Labour weekend from October 20 to 23 with prize giving taking place at Waikite Rugby and Sports Club, Bellvue Rd in Rotorua on October 23.

"Previously, the competition was being hosted by the title holders however the last two years we have decided to keep the event central and based the competition in Rotorua," Mr Morrison said.

There is a change to the way they will weigh boars and red stags which the organisers hope will make everyone in with a chance to win. There will also be the best condition factor rainbow trout and a mystery sea fish species to be announced at the team briefing on the Thursday night October 20 at the Ruck 'n Maul sports bar.

This year the competition will be filmed for Choice TV and it will air on Hunting Aotearoa later in the year. Several film crews will accompany the hunters in the quest to win the big prizes.

"This should make exciting television," Mr Morrison said.

A strong committee of organisers are arranging corporate and local sponsorship, which includes Hunting and Fishing Rotorua, Huntech, UFO Cookers, Mainfreight and Polaris which had donated a Polaris Sportsman 570 to give away as part of a raffle prize.
