A hunter had to be airlifted to hospital after injuring his knee.
The Tauranga-based Tect Rescue Helicopter was called to the Waioeka Gorge yesterday, south of Opotiki where the 38-year-old hunter had twisted his knee.
One of the man's hunting companions walked out of the bush to get help forthe injured man.
They had spent the night in a temporary bivoac as the injured man could not walk the ragged terrain back to the Manganuku Hut.
The man was winched into the helicopter and taken to Whakatane Hospital for treatment.
