Four visitors to the Rotorua Novotel hotel had to be rescued by firefighters after getting stuck in a lift early Saturday morning.

Two crews - eight firefighters in total - were sent to Novotel to rescue the group at 12.39am.

The four were out by 12.51am.

Senior Station Office Jim Prescott said he wasn't sure how long the people were stuck for.

General manager of Novotel Rotorua Edward Judd said he could not comment on the matter as he was not at work and had no information
