A site up for auction this week has potential to be expanded into a larger private hospital.

The Fairy Springs Rd building which houses the Rotorua Eye Clinic and Central Daystay Theatre is set to go under the hammer at an auction on Thursday.

Mr Rendell said he was seeing good interest in the property that he described as an amazing facility which was like a hospital inside.

He said it was fitted out with doctor consulting rooms and a day stay theatre.

"It could be used for orthopaedic surgery or something like that in the long term. Buyers are seeing that potential as a private hospital."

The developments didn't need to be done now but gave the scope to add value.

The property has a floor area of 1443sq m and comes with a land area of 6865sq m, and has 37 carparks.

Mr Rendell said the Eye Clinic had a lease running through until 2025.
