A homicide investigation has been launched in Te Puke after a man found critically injured from a gunshot wound died overnight.

The man was admitted to hospital yesterday morning, succumbing to his injuries this morning despite medical staffs’ efforts to save him.

Detective Senior Sergeant and Western Bay of Plenty area investigations manager Natalie Flowerdew-Brown said police are now working to determine the full circumstances of the incident and locate the individuals involved.

A scene examination is under way in and around Manoeka, and residents can expect a continued police presence over the coming days.

“Police would like to hear from anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage in the Manoeka area on Saturday, October 25 between 10am and 11am,” Flowerdew-Brown said.

“We would also like to speak with anyone who may have information that can assist in our investigation.”

A reporter at the scene said four armed police were standing guard on either side of a property at the centre of the police investigation. Orange markers were in the driveway area.

Other properties across the road also had their driveways taped off and the property directly opposite had a police car at the end of it
