It's not the usual setting, but with 12 local artists displaying wall art, garden art and felt art this was not going to be your regular fundraising art exhibition.

The exhibition, which is set inside and around four Lockwood show homes, will feature the works of emerging and established local artists, in a fundraising venture with John Paul College.

The exhibition opens on October 19 and runs until January 10 and the $10 tickets for opening night are selling fast, John Paul College PTA treasurer Vivien Cooper said.

Part of the evening's proceeds will go to the school.

Mrs Cooper said they were expecting a large turnout, having sold more than 400 tickets to the event last year.

"Ten dollars gets you food, music, a glass of wine and you can look at great art," Mrs Cooper said.

The John Paul College jazz band will play at the event and the PTA will provide food.

"It is an opportunity for local talent to showcase art. It's an opportunity to show the wider community the jazz band and give them the confidence to play live," she said.

The success of last year's exhibition was credited to the "general atmosphere", exhibiting artist Helen Weblin said.

"It was a beautiful day and you could walk around with your wine with the band playing," she said.

Mrs Cooper said the exhibition would feature unique and distinctive works of art across a variety of mediums. "There will be a mixture, which includes garden art. Garden art was sought after last year," she said.

The handcrafted felt art by Susan Kostanich should also provide a lot of interest, she said. It uses the kina, or sea urchin shape, and each piece of felt art is individual.

• Tickets can be purchased from John Paul College reception or Lockwood on Fairy Springs Rd. For further information contact Vivien Cooper on (07) 345 4499.
