The Rotorua District Library has plenty of events planned to keep kids warm during the holidays with its Winter Fun programme.

There will be no need to spend money or book ahead in order to enjoy the movie nights, talent show, book launch, or magic show the library has organised for the two-week period.

The programme will be bookended by two winter-themed movies on July 12 and July 21.

The Matariki Star Search Grand Finale will be held on July 13. Students at primary, intermediate, and high school level will all be represented by the 13 finalists.

"There's an amazing variety of talent and it's going to be a stellar night," children's and teens' librarian Te Aroha Rangi said.

"There'll be a lot of little people with big voices."

Russell Harrison will host the event.

Kody the Koaro, a book written by high school students from the Rotorua Youth Environment Forum, will be launched on July 19.

"It's a really good book. Perfect for 6- to 8-year-olds," she said.

The book is focused on local waterways and the importance of respecting and caring for them.

A magician is scheduled for July 20 when Trevor Sills will bring his show Simply Magic from Cambridge.

Miss Rangi described him as a "crowd pleaser" who "always put on an amazing show for people of all ages".

Mr Sills was often invited to the library to perform, but usually during the summer holidays rather than winter.

Kids will be invited to the stage by Mr Sills to take part in the magic.
