The health warning issued in November for Lake Rotoehu has now been lifted by the Medical Officer of Health.
Results of water testing by Bay of Plenty Regional Council confirmed algal bloom had subsided in the lake.
Despite the lifting of the warning, algal blooms can occur quickly in theright conditions, so it is important to check the water yourself before you get in.
"Algal blooms can develop rapidly and unpredictably and can sometimes produce toxins that are harmful to people as well as animals," Toi Te Ora Public Health Medical Officer of Health Dr Neil de Wet said.
"If the water looks discoloured, has an unusual smell, or has green or brown particles suspended in it, or if there is scum floating on the surface or along the shoreline, it is best to avoid contact with it."
