From enjoying live entertainment, chowing down on tasty treats to buying handmade goods - there's plenty to do at this weekend's Original Gypsy Fair.

The fair will be held at the Soundshell and Village Green tomorrow and Sunday, featuring a variety of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy, including live entertainment, merry-go-rounds, tarot reading, palm reading and plenty more.

The popular fair comes to town once a year, bringing 25 house trucking families to the city.

Gypsy Fair's Ray Poulson said the fair was a fantastic opportunity for families to experience the country's oldest gypsy fair, which has been running for close to 25 years.

"I think the fair is something really unique. We are the original gypsy fair and have had a long history travelling around the country and putting on this event. It's always proved hugely popular," he said.

The event will give locals the opportunity to look at and buy handcrafted goods that they were unlikely to find at any other store or market, Mr Poulson said.

The fair will include stalls selling wooden crafts, leather, crystals, greenstone, herbal products, Havana coffee, clothes, jewellery, food, candyfloss, glass, accessories, among other things.

"There's something for everyone," Mr Poulson said.

The event will also feature entertainment from talented musician Ralph Bennett-Eades.

Rotorua is the first destination for the fair this season, and Mr Poulson said it shouldn't be missed.

"We're hoping for a really big turnout. We'd love to see as many people come down and support it as possible. We're very appreciative to everyone who has supported the fair over the years."
