A popular inner city store will shift to the Central Mall before Christmas.

Despite the move, the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce says positive steps are being taken to revitalise the Central Business District.

Glassons Rotorua will shift from Tutanekai St to the Central Mall before December 25.

A Glassons Rotorua spokesperson said it was part of "an upgrade" to the store.

Chamber chief executive Roger Gordon said there were plenty of positives for the CBD. "I think that we are seeing a very positive move in the CBD with the recent inner city revitalisation group getting together.

"I am looking forward to the impact that it will have on the environment in our city."

One move to revitalise the inner city includes free parking from December 2.

Meanwhile, Central Mall's Take Note store has changed its name to Paper Plus.

Owner Heather Jenkins said "We have got exactly the same services, exactly the same wonderful staff, the only thing which is changing is the name."

Paper Plus on Tutanekai St is separate and will stay open.
