Debutant Ben Astwood, a Western Heights High School student, made telling contributions with both bat and ball as Geyser City Reserves overcame Taupo Old Boys 2 in the Rotorua Cricket Association's senior reserve competition at the weekend.
Astwood scored 48 not out off 74 balls making a significant contributionto his sides total of 168 in 39.4 overs. He then took two wickets for 28 runs.
Also setting the platform at the top of the innings with a quick-fire 40 was Geyser stalwart Pete Walters.
Taupo Old Boys 2 toiled hard under the hot sun with Craig Corbett picking up three wickets for 14 off his eight overs. He was helped by a miserly spell from Travis Dilich, two for 10 and Karl Barker, two for seven.
But in the end, Geyser had a comfortable 73-run victory, with hosts Taupo dismissed for 95 in the 28th over, the only resistance coming from Corbett's 24
