Geyser City first XI are searching for their first success in the WBOPCA Championship this weekend.

The local side travel to take on Katikati at Fergusson Park today in the second round of Pool One.

Geyser City go into the game looking to redeem themselves after an opening eight-wicket loss against Lake Taupo CC side.

Geyser City club chairman Mike Holmes said the players were in a "good head space" but the side must hit a better run rate to compete.

"Despite the opening result we are in a good space right now," Holmes said. "But we do have to put in a good score with the bat to stand any chance. At the moment we aren't setting a big enough target, it's something I'm sure the players are aware of."

Katikati will also look to bounce back after last weekend's 76-run defeat away to Tauranga Boys' College.

Elsewhere in Pool One, first-round competition winners Lake Taupo CC are shooting for 13 straight wins, when they play Sikh Sports at the Kaimanawa Reserve on Saturday.

And R&A Sangha face off against Tauranga Boys' College. The Indian team won last season's McNaughton Trophy (Baywide Reserve Grade championship), Tauranga finished just outside the top four after the first-round competition.
