Rotorua Girls' High School has established an alumni fund with the Geyser Community Foundation.

Principal Ally Gibbons said the alumni fund was a special and powerful way in which students, past and present, their families/whanau, teachers and anyone else who had an interest in helping the school continue to develop could give back for its long-term benefit.

The alumni fund is a named endowment fund. Donations made to the fund will be invested by the Geyser Community Foundation and the capital retained forever.

Income earned on the capital will be made available to the school for charitable purposes every year once it reaches a minimum of $50,000.

"The annual income could be used in a number of ways for the benefit of students such as providing scholarships and prizes, providing or improving sporting and other facilities at the school or promoting public health.

"Income could also be used to provide assistance to school students who are in need or suffering genuine temporary or long-term financial hardship, including anyone who does not have access to the normal things of life that most of us take for granted."

The school will take the wishes of the donors into account when applying the funds.

-Donations of any size can be made by credit card on the school's website www.rghs.school.nz or Geyser's website www.geysercf.org.nz
