Local services and performers wanting to contribute to a community day focusing on health have the chance to do so.

The Mokoia Community Association, Eastside Rotorua and Owhata Medical Centre are organising a free community day.

Leigh Richards-Ward, community-led manager of the association, says they have community events throughout the year with different themes.

This will be the second hauora event.

"It's basically a whanau day with a health focus."

"It's about providing the community with an opportunity to come out and participate in some activities in our Youth Space. At the same time they are in a non-threatening, friendly environment where they can find out some information around health issues they or those they know may have."

It is being held on Sunday March 18, 10.30am to 1pm, at Puketawhero Park, Owhata.

Owhata Medical Centre's Leesa King says the Car Seat Clinic will be there.

"It will be good as a clinic was held recently at Te Ngae Shopping Centre and out of the 34 car seats looked at, only two were installed properly."

Leigh says even if people have correctly installed car seats, they may not be tethered properly.

This is a great opportunity for people to come down, check they have the right car seat for their children and check it is installed properly, she says.

Healthy Homes is another service that will be present.

Leigh says it is a great opportunity for people to come along and find out what they can do to make sure their houses are healthy over the coming winter period.

The community day is free, and will also include music and a free sausage sizzle.

She says providers at the community day will have activities for people to participate in.

As well as these, other activities including a basketball competition will be on the go too, she says.

"It's an awesome location in terms of coming down and meeting other people in your community.

"It's also a great, free opportunity to get some information or find some health services you are seeking for your family."

Leigh says organisers are still keen more services and providers to get in touch and be apart of the event.

She says the theme of health is broad and includes anything that supports people's wellbeing.

Organisers are also keen to hear from anyone who would like to perform on the day.

If you or your service would like to be involved contact Leesa King, Owhata Medical Centre on (027) 345 9699 or Leigh Richards-Ward, Mokoia Community Association, on (027) 345 5971.
