If you are overheating at Crankworx today, head over to the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts centre to feast your eyes on floral designs from New Zealand's top designers.

The Floral Art Society of New Zealand is celebrating 50 years with a three-day exhibition, featuring more than 200 designers.

The exhibition began on Wednesday and finishes today at 1.30pm.

Floravision 2015 convener Linda Barnett was pleased with the exhibition which happens every five years in different centres around the country.

This is the first year it has been competitive.

"It's going very well, and we just hope to get foot traffic through the door.

"This is 2015, and it is a five year event. We are lucky to have it in this venue and it is the first time we have had a competition.

"We are celebrating 50 years of the society, with designers from all over New Zealand. We have had 487 registrants and we have had over 1000 people come through the door."

Ngongotaha woman Sharon Beckett was pleased to be a part of the event with her floral wreath design titled A Novel Approach.

"It's very inspirational, it's really good to see people from throughout New Zealand who are designers all come down."

She urged everyone to view the floral art on display at the exhibition.

"We want the public to come and see all the interpretive work. There has been preparations for this for the last 18 months."

"We want to inspire people to do something outside of the square, so take the time to come and see."

She added: "It will be another 30 years before it ever gets back here."
