Flooding and multiple slips have closed State Highway 2 between Matata and Paengaroa, south of Tauranga.
The New Zealand Transport Agency announced the closure this morning and said the road would remain closed until further assessment was possible today.
The road is closed in both directions and the transport agencyis recommending people use detours via State Highway 34, State Highway 30 or State Highway 33.
