A flash mob of locals will perform a lake-front haka to show their support for the All Blacks - and everyone's invited to join in.

A group of more than 220 people are expected to meet at the Lakefront at 12pm today to take part in the flash mob haka. Organiser Wahia Walker-Poroa said the event was a "spur of the moment thing".

"I was scrolling through Facebook [Thursday] night and came across a flash mob event on a Kiwis living in Aussie page. I thought it was such a cool idea so decided I would try to set one up in Rotorua."

Ms Walker-Poroa said she hoped people of all ethnicities and ages would get involved.

"I think it would be so cool to see children getting into the spirit and even tourists just jumping in spontaneously. It's meant to be a fun event to show our support for the All Blacks.

"The plan is to have everyone gather at the stage on the Lakefront then pretend to do normal stuff, like playing touch, having a family picnic, then somebody will stand up and start the haka and everyone stops what they are doing and joins it. "

She said the flash mob was also a personal competition between her and her family in Australia.

"I have family in Australia who have been saying their flash mob will be better than mine so I have to beat them," she laughed.

To take part in the flash mob haka meet Ms Walker-Poroa at the stage on the Lakefront at 12pm. Everyone has been asked to wear black.
