"It was so cool. I loved the moves and the dancing. It was so much fun ... I'd love to do it again."
Mokoia Intermediate's Osiris Miller, 12, also enjoyed the experience and the public interaction.
"It was so cool. People really seemed to like us and our movements."
Robyn Lasenby stopped to watch the group and said they were a talented bunch of kids.
"It's so nice to see them enjoying themselves and outside. It's nice to see them doing something. It's very entertaining to watch them. They are so cute and very good."
Playtopia co-ordinator Missy Armstrong said the theme for this week's programme was Hollywood and movie stars, so they decided to give the children a taste of stardom by hosting the flash mob dance.
"They have been studying about celebrities, superstars and musicians as well as learning all about dance, film and television. They have really loved it," she said.
While some of the 70 children on the programme didn't want to take part, those who did had really enjoyed it, Ms Armstrong said.
"Look at the smiles on their faces."
The children were buzzing as they left the City Focus, with many still dancing as they walked down Hinemoa St.
The flash mob was part of Mental Health Awareness Week activities held at the City Focus throughout the day, which also included performances by singers.
City Focus manager Dennis Olliver said people were out enjoying the sunshine and the activities.
"It definitely drew lots of people in," he said.
