The Flag Consideration Project Road Show is an "eye opener", says one Rotorua man who recommends locals "hear what the panel has to say".

The roadshow arrived in Rotorua on Saturday, hosting a public hui at Ohinemutu to discuss the New Zealand flag.

The hui, at Papaiouru Marae, was a chance for Rotorua people to meet members of the Flag Consideration Project panel and be heard on what makes New Zealand special.

Nika Rua said before going to the hui he was opposed to the flag changing. "I was one of those people saying, 'No, it's a waste of money', but when I sat down and listened to what these panel members had to say it was a real eye opener ...

"After going to this meeting, I am definitely looking at the issue with a more open mind."

He urged people to get involved. "I walked away with a much clearer view of what a flag change would mean."

The roadshow will erect an information stand at City Focus from 10am to 3pm tomorrow and hold a workshop at Millennium Hotel from 5.30pm to 7pm.
