About 68 per cent of Rotorua residents on the general roll and 51 per cent on the Maori roll voted in this year's election. We asked our readers on Facebook if they voted.

I did too, cant believe people are complaining when they couldn't take 10-15 minutes out of their day to go and vote.

I was the screwtineer for the national party at one of the polling booths but yes I did vote

yes, not that it did any good, and spoke to a fair few who didnt, said they didnt like any of them!, and some that had no clue, that just wanted to pick the winner, like its a rugby game. oh well we off to oz for 3yrs. hope theres still something left, after national is done!

During one of the elections in GB during the reign of Maggie Thatcher, only about 37 per cent of the electorate bothered to vote! Make it compulsory!

Sure did! Special vote on Friday afternoon. Voting should be made compulsory like in ausie. You don't vote you get fined.

They honestly think thats going to work? I mean really kids these days have little or No respect for anyone. The young ones are rude, abusive, disrespectful foul mouth wannabe gangsters!! They can try but i see this being a big flop just like that Mariah Carey movie Glitter.

I think it's good. It's better than nothing. At least people will be around to inform cops if there's something bad going on. A presence is often all it takes, as suburban retailers USED to see with community constables ...
