Twelve fire crews are on their way to an industrial building north of Taupo after a dust explosion caused a major fire.

The fire is at Nature's Flame, a business on Aratiatia Rd that provides sustainable wood pellet heating.

Fire crews were alerted to the fire at 8.47pm via an automatic alarm. It is not believed anyone is in the building and there are no reports of injuries.

Fire Communications shift manager Jaron Phillips said the dust explosion involved two saw dust hoppers.

The crews were heading to the scene from Rotorua, Taupo, Kaingaroa, Turangi, Tokoroa and Kinloch.
