An early childhood education convention running for more than 40 years is heading to Rotorua and is expected to bring more than 1000 educators to the city.
The four-day Early Childhood Convention will run from October 1-4 at the Rotorua Energy Events Centre.
The convention has been running every fouryears since 1972. The most recent should have been held in Christchurch in 2011 but was cancelled after the devastating earthquake.
Committee chairwoman Elizabeth Pakai said she expected a huge crowd this year.
"When we were last in Rotorua in 2007, close to 1500 people attended ... For this year I think we're sitting at around 500," she said. "We have extended the early-bird registrations to August 16 so there is still plenty of time for people to go online and register."
The convention was "hands on", with workshops, seminars and keynote speakers.
"I really encourage Rotorua's early childhood education teachers to register and come along as there is a lot to learn and discuss."
Keynote speakers Thursday: Merepeka Raukawa-Tait and Dame Anne Salmond. Friday: Dr Margy Whalley (to be confirmed) and Helen May. Saturday: Diane Longboat. Sunday: Clare Wells and Dr Mera Penehira.
