Bay of Plenty crash: Five injured in two-vehicle crash on State Highway 2 Waioeka

Five people were injured in a crash in the Eastern Bay of Plenty yesterday.

Emergency services scrambled to a two-vehicle crash on Waioeka Rd (SH2), Waioeka around 3pm.

The road was blocked for a time and had reopened by late afternoon.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said three ambulances, two rapid responses, one operations manager, and two helicopters attended.

“Three patients were transported by ambulance, all in moderate to minor conditions, to Whakatane Hospital.

“Two further patients were airlifted to Tauranga Hospital, one in a serious condition and one in a moderation condition.”

Video footage of the crash scene showed two rescue choppers responding and multiple ambulances and debris scattered across the road.
