Emergency services at serious crash near Taupō

A helicopter has been called to the aid of a person involved in a serious crash near Taupō.

A police spokeswoman said they were called to a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 5 in Iwitahi near the intersection of Taharua Rd about 1.30pm.

The vehicle was towing an empty horse float when it crashed into a bank.

One person has suffered serious injuries.

The highway was down to one lane and the Serious Crash Unit was attended, she said.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokeswoman said a fire crew from Taupō had helped paramedics at the scene with first aid and that a helicopter had arrived at the scene.
