The Rotorua Lakes Community Board was set up by Rotorua District Council in 2007 to look after the interests of Rotorua's many lakeside residents.
It is made up of four elected members and two Rotorua district councillors, who are appointed after the elections.
The current board consists of chairman BrentleighBond, deputy chairman Geoff Palmer, Leo Meharry and Neil Callaghan. Council-appointed members are Maggie Bentley and Dave Donaldson.
Neither Brentleigh Bond nor Neil Callaghan are standing for re-election this year, so there are six candidates standing for the four elected positions.
At the last election, a ballot was not required as only four people stood for the four positions available.
Community board members are paid $5500 a year for their work.
Voting documents are being sent to registered electors between today and September 25.
Voters must make their postal vote in time to ensure their documents are received no later than midday Saturday, October 12, which is the official election day.
