Take a good look at the intersections named in our story as crash blackspots.

Chances are many of you drive through those intersections on a regular basis.

And no matter how careful a driver you are, or you think you are, the joker coming the other way may not be as careful.

Some crashes may be caused by a moment's inattention or carelessness, but there are so many idiots out on the road it's unbelievable.

I'm sure every one of you could in a single journey note examples of recklessness, rule-breaking, selfishness or impatience from other road users.

My pet peeve (besides people who pull out in front of me) is red light runners. They seem particularly bad at the corner of Ranolf and Amohau Sts in Rotorua.

What's worse, it's often hulking great trucks slamming through the intersection up and down Amohau St at what seem like open road speeds.

Nearly every time I approach that intersection, I see at least one vehicle hooning through while a green light is staring back at my line of traffic.

If I'm at the front of the queue when the green comes, I always pause and check there's nothing coming.

Because often something is.

Roundabouts can be tricky too. So many people zoom straight through without giving way or even looking.

We all want to get to where we're going - but some people just have to be there a minute or two earlier.

One day those impatient souls are going to run out of luck, and into someone else.
