The Rotorua Salvation Army Foodbank has had a huge response - now its time to keep the coffers full for 2016.

The Rotorua Salvation Army Foodbank has had a huge response - now its time to keep the coffers full for 2016.

There's just one day to go until it's time to count the cans.

The annual Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal finishes tomorrow and on Christmas Eve we will reveal the final tally.

Your generosity to date has been fantastic, with Rotorua people of all ages and from all walks of life doing their bit to help the Salvation Army Foodbank.

The good news is the $5000 donation by the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust will go a long way to helping keep needy families fed not just over the Christmas period but into next year.

The even better news is it's not too late to do your bit.

We will accept all donations of non-perishable food and cash at the Rotorua Daily Post office up until 5pm tomorrow, or you can drop them at the Salvation Army on Haupapa St.

A couple of months ago we had to launch an emergency appeal to restock the shelves, which were almost bare. How great would it be if we could collect enough to help keep the shelves well-stocked for all of 2016?

So put down the paper for a moment, have a rummage in the cupboard, chuck some cans in the back of the car and swing by and drop them off to us.

There's free parking right outside and if you need a hand bringing boxes in, just give us a yell. We have a whole newsroom of fit and strong helpers who would be only too delighted to pop out and help.

The finish line is in sight, let's give it one last push.
