This week I found myself doing one almighty fist pump in the newsroom.

We had been given the sales figures from our first week of the new-look compact and morning edition Rotorua Daily Post.

So far so good. Hundreds more people last week bought our new paper.

The figures show the sales were 11 per cent higher than the previous week - an incredible result we are all very proud of.

It means our hard work is paying off.

The phone has also been running hot since the first paper came out on Monday last week with people offering positive comments and passing on their feedback.

While I won't pretend everyone is happy, the overwhelming response has been positive - most people like the smaller newspaper, find it easier to read and easier to handle. They are also appreciating there are more local stories in shorter bites.

I gave a talk to the great folk at the Rotorua Central Probus club this week about our new paper. The feedback from the members was invaluable.

One woman came up to me at the end of my talk "with a bone to pick". She wanted me to know she didn't like getting the paper in the morning now because she couldn't help but read it straightaway and the housework was piling up!

We really want to continue to look after our Rotorua readers so keep those calls and emails coming - good and bad, we want to hear from you about how we can keep you happy.
