Todd McClay's political career continues to go from strength to strength.
His promotion to Minister of Trade, to go with his State Owned Enterprises portfolio, is a big step up for the Rotorua MP.
As he told us yesterday, trade is where his background and his passion lie so hewas understandably excited by the outcome of John Key's Cabinet reshuffle.
Having spoken to him about trade in the past, there is no doubting his genuine enthusiasm for the issues and his belief that negotiating the right partnerships on the right terms can have a tangible impact on regions, such as Rotorua and its businesses and people.
With the appointment, Mr McClay's public profile also looks set to rise - the trade portfolio is not one that slides quietly under the radar.
He can expect to face critics, with trade partnerships thrust into the limelight in this country by the controversial Trans Pacific Partnership.
While Mr McClay will not take the lead on further TPP negotiations - that's all been done by predecessor Tim Groser - he will be involved in enacting the legislation around it and that's unlikely to be smooth sailing.
Fletcher Tabuteau, New Zealand First's trade spokesman, will no doubt be looking forward to a few robust debates in the house with his fellow Rotorua-based MP.
Despite the travel and workload that goes with the role, Mr McClay is adamant he will continue to make time for his Rotorua constituents.
And with local businesses and individuals now having direct access to the Trade Minister's ear, Mr McClay may not be the only one in the city welcoming the news.
