Editorial: Christmas Appeal - help pay it forward

The generosity of our locals is the mark of a caring community. As has happened every year, the Rotorua public is again showing it cares by contributing so generously to The Daily Post annual Christmas appeal.

The total so far is nearing $20,000 worth of food and money donations with a major boost to the cash pool coming courtesy of the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust, which always makes a generous donation to whatever cause is being supported.

We are very grateful for the trust's support all these years.

And individuals in the community have also given generously, many anonymously donating whatever they can to help those in our region who will be doing it tough this Christmas.

For most people, giving something to help others comes naturally and the generosity of our locals is the mark of a caring community. We thank you all for your support and caring.

It's an unfortunate fact of life that there will always be people in any community who need others to help them and there are many different ways people can do this, through various charity work and support services.

Some people give their time while others can't give much time but are happy to donate what and when they can when charities and causes come calling.

We're now in the final push of The Daily Post appeal with Christmas not very far away and we would like to think we can top the $20,000 mark.

If you haven't donated yet, any small amount of non-perishable foods or cash will make a big difference to those in need.
