Editorial: Brave kids in need

Few people in this world wouldn't be touched by stories about children suffering from cancer.

The Rotorua Daily Post has launched a campaign to raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation to help with the great work they do.

Currently the foundation is supporting 40 families in our city and they can do with as much help as possible.

As we publish more stories about those affected by cancer, it becomes clear there are some pretty amazing people in our city.

Despite the incredible battle these children face, they still remain positive. Then there are their parents who seem to be endless towers of strength for their kids and the rest of the family. They not only have to deal with the shock of finding out their child has cancer, but they have to cope with the day-to-day reality of fighting this hideous disease.

The foundation supports in so many ways, including helping out with the additional costs that continually crop up.

As a parent, I couldn't imagine what these parents and extended family members are going through. While all serious illnesses are sad and hard to take, when it affects a child it just seems so wrong and unfair.

So, if you are able to help in any way by giving to this cause, we would be very grateful.

We are willing to publish details about any individuals, groups, businesses or schools who give money. We are also happy to keep donations anonymous if that is preferred.

We are taking cash and cheques at the Rotorua Daily Post offices on Hinemoa St. Every little bit helps.
