Earthquake shakes Eastern Bay of Plenty

The Bay of Plenty was rocked by a moderate earthquake this afternoon.

The 5.2 magnitude earthquake hit about 20km northwest of Matawai in the Eastern Bay of Plenty at 4.29pm, according to the Geonet website.

According to Geonet, over 2000 people had reported the earthquake. Most reports were for a light or weak shake.
