A fundraising appeal for the 7-year-old girl who was mauled by dogs has already raised $65,000.

Japanese girl Sakurako Uehara remains in intensive care at Middlemore Hospital following Monday's attack by four Staffordshire bull terriers in Murupara.

The hospital set up a public appeal to raise money to help her family in what is expected to be a long recovery.

TV ONE's Breakfast programme appealed for viewers to text 'Japan' to 2923 to make an instant $3 donation to the public appeal this morning.

A Middlemore spokeswoman confirmed $65,000 had so far been raised.
