Former Kawerau woman and fashion designer Aroha Wikotu is about to make her fashion debut at New Zealand Fashion Week.
After winning the Established Designer Category at this year's Miromoda Fashion Design Awards competition, Ms Wikotu, who is the designer of Shikoba clothing, will be included in the best of New
Zealand's fashion designs.
New Zealand Fashion Week takes place at the Viaduct Harbour Marine Village between September 21 and 25.
Originally from Kawerau and Whakatane with tribal and family land in Opotiki, Ms Wikotu's designs are inspired by her heritage and cultural background. "New Zealand's natural and raw beauty is something I feel very passionate about and has been hugely inspirational in my designs," she says.
The Shikoba collection offers a fresh and unique take on eco-friendly essentials, with a focus on small details.
Based in Hamilton, Ms Wikotu is excited to take her organic homegrown label to Auckland for Fashion Week and is looking forward to showcasing her distinctive and sustainable garments made in New Zealand.
