Kharl WiRepa believes that if he can make his dreams come true, he'll do the same for others.

So as he prepares for his first overseas show, he's giving three Rotorua models the chance to walk in the show.

Mr WiRepa is showcasing his fashion house at the Pacific Runway in Sydney in October and is holding a competition to select the Rotorua models he will take with him.

"It's an exciting and a unique opportunity," he said.

"It's about exposure, about life experience and the opportunities over in Sydney are unknown."

The Sydney show would give them exposure to a wide range of designers and talent agencies.

"It's quite exciting, and it's up to the girls to maximise it."

Mr WiRepa said he was looking for women over 16, and anyone under 18 who was chosen would need to take a guardian.

"I am mostly looking for attitude and presence."

Mr WiRepa said the opportunity to show in Sydney was one of his "dreams".

He plans to select the three from a fashion show being held on April 29. Registrations for those wanting to walk in the show will be held at a casting call on April 1.

The show, Oho, will also act as a fundraiser to help offset the cost of taking the models to Sydney.

A panel of judges at the event will select the three.

Mr WiRepa said it wasn't the first time he had offered local models opportunities.

"In 2016 we took a group of 12 girls to walk on the prestigious New Zealand Fashion Week catwalk."

Mr WiRepa said as well as giving the women the opportunity to further their careers, it also helped build the confidence and reputation of the local industry.
