The Desert Rd is closed this morning.

The Desert Rd has been closed to allow for the recovery of a truck and trailer following a crash this morning.

The truck and trailer rolled onto the shoulder of the highway just south of the Oturere Stream bridge at 4am.

New Zealand Transport Agency media spokeswoman Sarah Azam said the recovery was expected to take 2-3 hours.

The New Zealand Transport Agency twitter page said detours were in place at State Highway 46 and 47 to National Park and State Highway 4 and 49 at Waiouru.
