Rotorua Daily Post chief photographer Stephen Parker has been named a finalist in two categories of the 2017 Sir Terry McLean National Sports Journalism Awards, sponsored by Sport New Zealand.
Parker is a finalist for the Community Sports/Recreational/Adventure Photography Portfolio award, up against Robyn Edie of the Southland Times andChris Symes of Media Images.
He is also up for Best Single Photograph, up against Andrew Cornaga, John Cowpland, Symes, Edie and Dave Lintott.
In September, Parker was named best regional sports photographer at the Panpa 2017 Newspaper of the Year Awards for his underwater photo Para-Swimmer, featuring Siobhan Terry, which forms part of his five-image portfolio for these awards.
Peter White, who writes for the Rotorua Daily Post's sister paper the Bay of Plenty Times, is a finalist for the Best Provincial/Community Journalist award.
Former Rotorua Daily Post reporter Ruth Dacey is also a finalist in two categories - Best Community Sports/Recreational/Adventure reporting and the New Zealand Herald DJ Cameron Young Journalist Award - for work done while she was with the paper.
A total of 136 entries were received across the 12 categories. One of the category winners will go on to take the CBL Insurance Supreme Sports Journalist of the Year title plus a cash prize of $1000.
The winners will be announced at the Sir Terry McLean Awards dinner at the Ellerslie Event Centre in Auckland on Thursday, November 30.
