Months of hard work has come to fruition with the colourful opening of Rotorua's first CreationFest.
CreationFest, which began yesterday and runs until July 19, builds on the former Wearable Creationz event and includes film and live performance categories, as well as wearable arts, over five performances held at thehistoric Blue Baths.
The first two shows were daytime matinee performances, held yesterday and today. Following these are three evening shows from tomorrow to Saturday, with Saturday's celebration show also featuring the awards ceremony.
CreationFest event co-ordinator and Blue Baths managing director Jo Romanes said she was thrilled to finally see so many months of hard work come to fruition.
"It is hugely satisfying and exciting to finally be in show week. Being able to bring an event like this back to the community, with even more creativity, excitement and entertainment, is a real honour," she said.
"There have been so many people working behind the scenes for months to bring CreationFest to life. We have had incredible support from the Rotorua community and we want to thank each and every one of you for the time and talent you have dedicated to the shows."
The idea for the extended show has been a year in the making, with the Rotorua Creative Art Trust working collaboratively with the Blue Baths since September.
"People are thrilled to see a wearable art show back in the city and with 90 people involved in the shows both onstage and backstage, including more than 70 local youth either modelling, singing, acting, dancing or helping backstage, everyone knows someone that's involved."
