There'll be plenty of hip-swinging action as Rotorua prepares to welcome hundreds of people for the country's biggest community-based Cuban dance and music event.
The New Zealand Cuban Festival is ready to dance its way into town from February 28 to March 2 - but there'll be plenty of actionduring the week long Community Week before the festival with plenty of free action around town.
It's the first time the event has been staged in Rotorua and the first time the community week has been held.
The free events begin on Saturday, February 22 with performances and classes at the City Focus, the Arts Village, the Night Markers and at Eat Streat.
Every year the festival attracts the best international and national Cuban dance instructors who come to share the sounds, rhythms and dances of the Afro-Cuban beat with Kiwis who love Cuban dance.
The festival is sponsored by the New Zealand Communities Trust (NZCT), the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust and the Creative Communities Rotorua Scheme 2013. This funding has enabled the festival to hire international dance instructors and fund the week of community based events.
Trustee member and co-founder Greydis Montero Liranza said she was really excited to be able to share her passion and knowledge.
