A section of State Highway 1 near Taupō was closed for about four hours yesterday following a serious crash.

The crash happened on Centennial Dr in Rotokawa about 3pm.

One person was flown to Waikato Hospital with critical injuries, a St John spokeswoman said.

State Highway 1 on the East Taupō Bypass was closed between State Highway 5 (Napier-Taupō Rd) and State Highway 5 Wairakei Drive roundabout, however, reopened about 7pm.
