Geyser City Cricket Club's reign in the Rotorua/Taupo senior reserve grade has come to an end.

Geyser won all three trophies in the reserve grade last season but will be unable to repeat the rare feat this season.

They were beaten by Taupo Wanderers on Saturday in the semifinal stage of the pre-Christmas, 40-over competition - the first trophy on offer in the 2014/2015 season.

Eastern Pirates (Rotorua) also won their semifinal on Saturday against Taupo Colleges to book their place in the final against Wanderers.

The final will be played this Saturday in Rotorua between the two clubs. Pirates player Des Beckett said they were rapt to make the final.

"It's good aye, you don't get to play in so many finals, you might play in half a dozen in your lifetime if you are lucky," he said.

He said they were expecting a tough match against Wanderers.

"They are a strong team but we are a strong team as well so it should be a good, tight game."

The Pirates comfortably won their semifinal at Owen Delany Park in Taupo on Saturday scoring 289/9, before removing Taupo Colleges for 138.

Shayde Perham top scored for the Pirates with 90 while captain John Wiringi took four wickets for just 16 runs.

It is the first time the Pirates have made a final since they re-entered the competition last year, Beckett said.

Beckett said the team did not hold mid-week trainings during the season and they were not going to start this week. He said they did not want to jinx the final.

Meanwhile, in the semifinal match between Geyser and Wanderers both teams struggled to post runs.

The Wanderers batted first during the match in Taupo and posted 163 all out, with the wickets being shared among the Geyser bowlers.

Geyser would have felt that score was within their reach, but they had a terrible time at the crease.

They were removed for just 82 runs.
