"You can sometimes get to this situation where you choke," he said. "But we are really happy, we have a great blend of young up-and-comers and old dogs."
He said the club was looking to enter a team in the Baywide premier division in the next couple of years and this was a step in the right direction.
"It sets us up well for what we want to do," he said.
He said their young players like Tom Yarrall and Sam Murdoch had big futures in the sport.
McKnight said they were a bit concerned they did not post enough runs with the bat on Saturday after scoring 168 in their 40 overs.
However, the score proved more than enough as the Geyser 1 bowlers ripped through the Central batting order.
Hayden Mitchell took four wickets for 19 runs, Yarrall took three wickets for 13 runs and Jono Collier grabbed two wickets for 13 runs.
Interestingly, Central's opening batsman Ben Fraser was dropped three times before being dismissed for 17.
The all-rounder Fraser posted the best bowling figures for Central with five wickets for 32 runs. Central's FG Gous also took two wickets for 16 runs.
Central captain Sam Gordon was disappointed after losing Saturday's final.
However, he said the game was played in good spirits which was good to see between the two proud clubs.
Gordon said his side showed some good signs this season after finishing top of their pool and advancing to the final.
Central will be looking for a re-match after Christmas when the next Rotorua/Taupo reserve grade competition kicks off.
In other reserve grade matches on Saturday, Taupo Old Boys 179 lost to Taupo Wanderers 180/2 in the match for third place, Geyser 2 173/9 lost to Eastern Pirates 180/7, and John Paul College 160 defeated Taupo Combined Colleges 135.
Championship match: Geyser 1 168/9 (Brad Munro 25, Tom Yarrall 24, Karl McKnight 23; Ben Fraser 5/32, FG Gous 2/16) defeated Central 75 (Ben Fraser 17; Hayden Mitchell 4/19, Tom Yarrall 3/13, Jono Collier 2/13).
