Cricket is a sport that depends more than most on the weather playing ball.

Unfortunately, that has not been the case in Bay of Plenty this season as rain continues to disrupt proceedings.

However, Central Indians did manage to get a game against Tauranga Boys' College on Saturday, although they had to give up home ground advantage as the game was moved to Nicholson Field in Tauranga where conditions were a little better.

Tauranga Boys' were the eventual victors, on the back of a well-crafted century by Marcel Collett.

Central Indians batted first and set the Tauranga students a substantial target, when they were dismissed for 213 in the 45th over. Jake Rowe top scored for the Rotorua side with 70 runs and combined with skipper Andrew Gibbs (36) to put together a solid middle-order partnership.

However, the game belonged to Collett, who took control of his team's reply, to blast 132 at a little better than a run a ball. The Tauranga Boys' opening batsman belted 18 fours and one six in his match-winning innings, with his side posting a seven-wicket win in the 35th over.

Element IMF Cadets also battled the inclement weather conditions, with a two-hour break in play, before overcoming New World Te Puke at the Tauranga Domain. The hosts were 108/1, when rain forced the players from the field. They went on to reach 232/6, in a match reduced to 37 overs per side. Sean Davey top scored with 72 runs, with two of the teams young guns in Fergus Lellman (58) and Ruben Clinton (41) also getting plenty of runs.

Cadets cruised to a big win when they removed Te Puke for 108. One of Cadets' other youngsters, Tim Pringle, did plenty of damage with the ball taking four wickets at a cost of 15 runs. Cam Riley was the best of the Te Puke batsmen with a gritty 35 runs.

While the Eves Realty Greerton match-up with Carrus Mount Maunganui saw the Mount turn at bat completed, further persistent rain at Pemberton Park resulted in the game not being finished with the points shared.
