After bowling Mount Maunganui out for 103 runs, Central Cricket Club must have thought they were on target to claim a famous victory.

Unfortunately, that was not the case on Saturday.

Central Cricket Club were bowled all out for 55 runs at Smallbone Park, during their 50-over Williams Cup match against defending champions Mt Maunganui.

Central captain Jason Trembath said the team was very disappointed after losing the match.

"That is possibly the lowest score the Mount has ever got and we thought we had it in the bag," he said.

Trembath said the pitch was good and they should have gone on to win the match.

"[The Mount] did have Tony Goodin back, who is a contracted Northern Districts player, but there is no excuses," he said.

He said they put themselves under pressure early, losing a couple of wickets, and were on the back foot for the rest of the innings.

He said the team would simply have to move on from the defeat.

Trembath said there were some positives to take out of the match in terms of their bowling and fielding.

Not least of which will be the bowling figures of Central's Vaughan Blanchard, who took four wickets for seven runs off three overs.

Trembath said Blanchard came in to bowl when the Mount were about five down, breaking down their tail.
